CACTUS – “The Longest Day”

Our first graduates of 2018 for CACTUS (Combined Adolescent Challenge Training Unit and Support) took on a big challenge last Thursday 10th May. The intrepid students, led by their able and enthusiastic instructor Pita and his co-pilot Paddy, made their way by van out to Lake Kaniere. From there they had to make their way back to school, on foot, a total of 27km and around 7 hours. They did this via walking tracks, cycle tracks, forestry roads and a couple of town roads, all regardless of the inclement weather. All the students involved should be very proud of their efforts with those participating earning themselves a good feed at the end!  Those students who passed the course also earned themselves a very cool CACTUS t-shirt.  Well done everyone.  Two more CACTUS programmes will run at Westland High School in Trimesters 2 and 3.
