CEO Ivan Wharerimu Iraia, known to us all as simply “Whare” stands outside REAP House at 72 Tudor Street, Hokitika. Whare moved from Rotorua as a teenager and attended Intermediate and High School at Greymouth, going on to gain qualifications in Law, Te reo & Spanish! He has a young family so wanted to come back to Coast because in his words “The Coast is a great place to raise children and I wanted my kids to have the same great experiences I had”.
Whare lived and worked in Auckland as a property lawyer before spending 10 years in the Middle East where he worked as a projects lawyer in the renewable energy sector.
On his return to Hokitika his children spent time coming along to the REAPs Melody makers sessions and more recently Whare accepted a role tutoring REAPs te reo Maori course which he continues alongside his new role as CEO.
