With ongoing requests to deliver art classes as education for adults and artists interested in becoming tutors WestREAP began a weekly Art group in late 2015.
The concept was to create a learning space that encouraged people to engage with Art AND the learning environment.
Tutor Kate Buckley had a background in Adult Community Education in her homeland of Ireland. There, she used Art as a creative medium to bring adults who have not had good educational experiences back into lifelong learning without the stress of a ‘classroom’ or a test or an academic outcome. WestREAP’s goal was to find a way of encouraging learners to come through the door, not knowing what they really wanted to achieve but with an interest in exploring Art as a way of finding out.
Art4Me runs weekly (during school term time) in both Hokitika and Greymouth.
Tuesdays 9.30am – 12.00 noon at the Baptist Church, 76 High Street, Greymouth
Thursday 9.30am – 12.00 noon at WestREAP, 72 Tudor Street in Hokitika
